Jermaine Bishop Jr. Scores 3 TDs As Willis Runs Through Oak Ridge For Another District Win
THE WOODLANDS, TX – Willis hit the road this week to face a struggling Oak Ridge team, winning convincingly 52-7. It wasn’t much of a contest, as Oak Ridge was missing some key players, and Willis’s offense was firing on all cylinders for this game. It looked like Willis was about to secure a shutout until a miraculous scoop-and-score with 33 seconds remaining in the game put Oak Ridge on the board. Willis continues to win and has all but secured a spot in the postseason. They’ll look forward to their final regular-season game against Grand Oaks next week to finish the year on a strong winning streak.
Willis Wildkats: A Convincing Defensive Performance
For Willis, the mission was clear for this game: get in, win, and move on. They played like a well-oiled machine on offense, scoring 52 points and forcing numerous turnovers on defense. Jermiane Bishop Jr. was again outstanding, scoring 3 TDs and gaining 125 receiving yards. Bishop also made a key interception off a tipped ball in the red zone. RB Jamarcus Williams had another strong game, rushing for 126 yards and a touchdown, with several big runs. TE Jaivion Martin continued his scoring streak, catching a nice pass from QB Lincoln Frazier for an 80-yard TD. Frazier had a great game as well, scoring 5 TDs and passing for 305 yards, though he did throw an interception. WR Daylen Wilkerson scored again, catching a 17-yard TD pass for his second touchdown of the season. The defense was exceptional, with 2 interceptions—one by Bishop and another by CB A’Majai Friend, who returned his pick 36 yards for a pick-6. Willis’s defense also made multiple 4th down stops and held Oak Ridge scoreless for most of the game. All of this was mostly in the 1st half, as after they went up by 52, it was mostly backups for the rest of the night. Overall, Willis looked as dominant as ever and showed they will be a force in the postseason. They will finish the regular season against Grand Oaks, which might be more interesting than initially thought.
Oak Ridge: Missing Some Key Players
Coming into this game, Oak Ridge didn’t have much to play for, as they are all but eliminated from the postseason at this point. Still, it could’ve been a much more competitive game had Oak Ridge not been missing some key offensive players last night. Both QB Drayton Urbay and WR James Scott were out for this one, forcing backup Jacon Arrants to step in. Arrants struggled to find his rhythm, throwing for only 115 yards, one TD, and an interception—specifically a pick-6 later in the game. He was later knocked out of the game in the third quarter, and without a quarterback, Oak Ridge had to turn to TE James Skaer in wildcat formation to try and generate offense. Clearly, that didn’t work, as Willis’s D-Line dominated the Oak Ridge line all night. Defensively, they were also exposed on multiple occasions, surrendering big touchdown plays throughout the game. The only bright spot for Oak Ridge was a defensive highlight: DT JJ Bassue scooped up a fumble and returned it for a TD with only 33 seconds remaining on the clock, preventing a shutout. That was the only highlight from Oak Ridge in a game where they were thoroughly overwhelmed. They still have two weeks left in the season, but they are now out of playoff contention.
Final Thoughts:
This was an ugly game from start to finish. Willis looked excellent and continued doing what they’ve been doing all year on offense. The defense appears much improved and seems like a unit that can support the offense in upcoming postseason games. Bishop, Martin, Williams, and Frazier are all clicking on offense, making it a dynamic and entertaining group to watch. They will face Grand Oaks next week to finish the season. For Oak Ridge, it was just another forgettable game as they were beaten in every aspect. They have a winnable game against Caney Creek next week before facing a hungry Woodlands team to close out their season. To watch the highlights of this game, check them out here on Woodlands Online.
