THE WOODLANDS, TX – Recently, The Woodlands Christian Academy set aside a special day for students in its lower and middle schools to learn about both nature and history. The younger students enjoyed Pioneer Day, while their elder peers were enrapt by Pollinator Education Day.

Pioneer Day involved the youngsters dressing in authentic and recreated pioneer attire while making their own soaps and candles. Even old-style dancing was part of the festivities. Meanwhile, the middle school students spent a day in special science classes and presentations to learn about the pollination processes. Their day culminated with an outdoors ‘escape room’ competition where teams solved puzzles and riddles to garner pieces of a pollination station to complete.

Crystal Chapman, Middle School Dean of Academics at TWCA, was excited about the day. “Today is an experimental learning day and we wanted to have our students focus on one subject throughout the entire day, so we’re looking at pollinators being such a small creature and the big impact they have on the world, particularly on the foods that we eat,” she told Woodlands Online.

The Woodlands Christian Academy was founded in 1993 by local pediatrician Dr. William Parks as a private, Christ-centered, college preparatory school serving students from Pre-K through 12th grade. The school has maintained a strong focus on academic excellence, spiritual development, and athletics, with notable achievements including multiple state championships in basketball, golf, and track and field.
