UPDATED: Montgomery County election results for The Woodlands area
THE WOODLANDS, TX – With a blue wave overwhelming the Lone Star State at the gubernatorial and federal levels, Montgomery County maintained its historical red-centric voting tradition. With all 121 precincts reporting in, here are the complete unofficial results for the November 3 midterm elections; results can only be called ‘official’ once they are certified by the Elections Commission.
Though statewide votes have forced Greg Abbott to turn over the keys to the Governor’s Mansion to Gina Hinojosa, nearly 63% of Montgomery County residents threw their support to Republican governor; likewise, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick will be stepping down to be replaced by Democrat Vikki Goodwin even though he received more than 62% of the Montgomery County vote.
In another surprise loss to the left, U.S. Senator Ken Paxton conceded to James Talarico despite exceeding 60% of the votes of Montgomery County residents.
In the locally relevant midterm races for U.S. Congress, Steve Toth eked out a win for District 2 Representative over Democrat Shaun Finnie with 56.54% of the county vote; meanwhile in District 8, Jessica Hart Steinmann cruised to an easy victory over Democrat challenger Laura Jones with 71.75% of the vote.
For county races, there was a decidedly conservative bent to the polling results. Incumbent County Judge Mark Keough kept his seat from Democrat challenger James Graf with 65.47% of the vote. 260,209 of the county’s 487,460 registered voters – 53.38% – cast their ballots over the past couple of weeks and today.
In the race for State Board of Education, District 6, former CISD trustee Tiffany Nelson handily beat challengers Michelle Palmer and Margo Jordan, as did Audrey G. Young over Dana Van De Walker DEM for District 8.
The GOP candidates for State Senator, District 4 and District 18 – Brett W. Ligon and Lois W. Kolkhorst easily overcame their challengers. In the State Representative races, Republicans Kristen Plaisance, Brad Bailey, Will Metcalf, and Janis Holt decidedly took their wins for Districts 3, 15, 16, and 18 respectively.
In the hotly contested Conroe Independent School District Trustee races, Position 1 went to challenger Ryan Tsamouris with barely 1,000 ballots separating him from Aggie Gambino; for Position 2, Rod Hammer squeaked out a win over his two challengers despite not getting a majority of the vote, and Position 3 stayed in the hands of Misty Odenweller.
The only contested race for The Woodlands Township Board of Directors, Position 3, saw Lisa Gilmore taking the win over challengers Priscila Young and Nick Tran despite not garnering a majority vote.
Below are the complete results awaiting certification including total number of combined early voting, absentee voting, mail-in voting, and election voting and the percentage of the total vote (“W” indicates a write-in candidate):
