At the risk of sounding all dark and gloomy, the Woodlands Online Weather Team regrets to inform you that this weekend will be one for predominantly indoor activities. Unless, of course, you’re into getting drenched and possibly struck by lightning.

The thunderstorms we’ve been ‘enjoying’ will continue off and on throughout the day, peaking in the late afternoon and early evening hours. Fortunately, the currently 15 mph-gusting winds will also abate somewhat at the same time, so most of the precipitation should be more vertical than diagonal. Another silver lining to this cloudy day is that the maximum temperature will be around the mid 80s. The Como Social Club at the Westin Waterway will offer you a relaxing (and dry) evening with the song stylings of Becca Ciribelli, Bryce Shaver, and Justin Cellum.

Overnight, the rains may soften but will not go away. All Saturday we’ll see scattered thunderstorms around the area with the greatest chances of precipitation in the mid afternoon. Like the day before, about a third of an inch of rain will dump on the area – not enough to flood houses in and of itself, but enough to make driving and biking a bear. Parents, the Mitchell Library on Ashlane Way is hosting an all-day Kid Zone filled with fun activities for the little ones aged 3 - 12. The mid-80s high will offer scant relief and we won’t even hit the 70s for a low until after midnight..

Sunday morning, the chances of storms goes down significantly, but the cloud cover will remain, acting as a blanket to trap in the warm air, resulting in a high just above the 90 mark. The winds that had settled down on Saturday will make a comeback, blowing what precipitation we do get into odd angles. If raining on your wedding day is good luck, then definitely head over to City Place for their Weddings Showcase. In the early afternoon, there will be a spike in stormy activity to round off the wet weekend as the low temperature settles around 77 degrees.

Hopefully, Sunday will see the last of the storms for a while; but our forecast models are predicting some hot and bright weather next week…

Stay tuned for weather updates from Woodlands Online, and be sure to check us out on Monday for our “Week Ahead” forecast.
