ORWALL rallies for three tourney titles
THE WOODLANDS, Texas – District 28 Tournaments were decided in three different age groups on Saturday with championship games going in favor of teams from hosting Oak Ridge/Woodlands Area Little League (ORWALL).
The ORWALL National Minors rallied for a 7-6 win over ORWALL American in one of those championship games played in the sweltering heat of late morning and early afternoon. ORWALL National won another, defeating ORWALL American 20-8 to go undefeated and win the District 28 Majors title.
Needing to win twice over unbeaten ORWALL American, the ORWALL National Minors All-Stars held on for a 6-5 win on Friday night, forcing the deciding game on Saturday. The never-say-die attitude shined through again as ORWALL National came back from a 6-3 fourth-inning deficit to capture the district title.
They trailed 6-5 entering the bottom of the sixth inning before Caleb Kanada delivered a game-winning two-run single.
The game went back and forth with ORWALL National jumping out to a 2-0 lead after two innings. But a three-run homer by Justin Gale gave ORWALL American a 3-2 edge in the top of the third.
Jesse Crowson tied the game for ORWALL National in the bottom half of the third inning with a solo homer.
ORWALL American scored three times in the fourth inning to grab a 6-3 advantage before ORWALL National chipped away with single markers in the fourth and fifth innings to make it a one-run game heading into the final at-bat.
Darrion Eddie hit two homers and Chase Lane added another as ORWALL National punctuated its District 28 Majors championship, rallying from a 4-0 first-inning deficit to complete an undefeated tournament run. The two combined to drive in 10 runs.
ORWALL National advances to the Section 2 Tournament, July 9-13, in Bridge City.
The ORWALL National Juniors All-Stars pulled off a near impossible feat on Saturday, fighting off oppressive heat and a Montgomery team they lost to 16-1 in the tourney opener. ORWALL National captured the District 28 Juniors crown, winning 15-9 and 11-10 over Montgomery.
The team advances to the Juniors Section 2 Tournament, hosted by ORWALL, July 9-13.
ORWALL also hosted the District 28 Seniors All-Star Tournament, won by a Montgomery team that was victorious in all three of its tournament games.
