THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Across the street at Gullo Field the pigskins were flying, a reminder that football season is just around the corner. But at the ORWALL Senior Field a celebration took place on Friday night for a history-making team about to embark on its biggest stage with a lot of baseball still left to play.

Oak Ridge North Mayor James M. Kuykendall and other dignitaries, along with fans, family and friends were on hand for the send-off. The ORWALL National Big League All-Stars, fresh from a Southwest Regional championship, will play in the Big League World Series, July 24-31, in Easley, S.C.

The team is flying out of Dallas on Monday and scheduled to arrive in Easley that afternoon. The team is fitted for uniforms on Monday and Opening Ceremonies are on Tuesday, which includes a Home Run Derby, player introductions and a concert. And then the first game is on Wednesday.

ORWALL National manager Steven Tidwell, who was presented the key to the city, said he felt like his team is prepared to make a good showing in the big event.

“It’s time to go and we’re ready to go,” Tidwell said.
