ORWALL National drops to 0-2 at World Series
The fourth inning has proven to be fatal for the Oak Ridge/Woodlands Area Little League (ORWALL) National All-Star team at the Big League World Series in Easley, S.C.
On Wednesday, hosts South Carolina scored seven runs in the fourth inning of a 15-5 win and on Wednesday it was Southeast scoring 10 runs in the fourth inning to offset solo homers by Marshall Kasowski and Gavin Grissom for a 12-2 victory at J.B. “Red” Owens Recreation Complex.
ORWALL National, now 0-2 at the World Series, will finish up round robin play with a 4 p.m. Friday game against the East Region champions and a 7:30 p.m. Monday contest with the Central Region champs.
The World Series semifinals are on Tuesday with the championship game set for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, nationally televised by ESPN2.
Teams from Europe, Asia-Pacific, Latin America, Puerto Rico, Canada and the United States are competing for the title of Big League Baseball World Champions. It’s the 13th consecutive year for Easley to host the most talented 16-18-year-old players from around the globe.
ORWALL National managed just five hits on Thursday - two from Kasowski. Justin Cassio and Gage Grissom each added a hit. Tony Cianciulli walked twice.
As it did on Wednesday, ORWALL National’s defense let them down. Four errors opened the door for Southeast to tally 10 unearned runs.
Kasowski started on the mound for ORWALL National, working 3 2/3 innings, striking out five while yielding three walks and seven hits. All nine of the runs scored during his stint were unearned.
