ORWALL National Big Leaguers on the verge of history
THE WOODLANDS, Texas - Teams from Europe, Asia-Pacific, Latin America, Puerto Rico, Canada and the United States will compete for the title of Big League Baseball World Champions.
The Oak Ridge/Woodlands Area Little League (ORWALL) National Big League All-Stars hope to be one of those teams. They’re close enough to taste it, just one win away.
ORWALL National is the only undefeated team in the Big League Southwest Regional Tournament, being played in La Vernia, and could become the first ORWALL team to make the World Series. They will take on the team that emerges from the loser’s bracket, which finished up late Sunday night.
The Southwest Regional Tournament championship game is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday. A second championship game, if necessary, would be played at 8 p.m.
The winner advances to the Big League World Series in Easley, S.C., where the championship game will be nationally televised by ESPN2 live in prime time.
The week-long event features the best of the best teenage baseball players from around the world from July 24-31 at the J.B. “Red” Owens Recreation Complex, kicking off with Fan Fest on July 23 including a home run derby, fireworks and special concert by Casey James, an American Idol Top Ten singer.
It’s the 13th consecutive year for Easley to host the most talented 16-18-year-old players from around the globe.
ORWALL National has rolled through District 28, Section 2, and East Texas State Tournaments before winning the first two games of the Southwest Regional Tournament. ORWALL National opened with wins of 14-3 over New Mexico and 9-7 over hosts La Vernia.
