THE WOODLANDS, Texas - Carter Spexarth hit a two-out two-RBI single in the top of the sixth inning that gave the Oak Ridge Lady War Eagles a 3-2 win at The Woodlands on Tuesday evening.

“I’ve been telling these seniors that this group is talented and they can do big things, and hopefully this win has proven that,” said Lady War Eagles Head Coach Amanda Brimberry.

Oak Ridge (16-5, 3-2) tallied only three hits for the ballgame, none of them for extra bases, however took advantage of a key opportunity as the Lady War Eagles got an unearned run in the top of the fourth inning with Spexarth singled to left field scoring Amber Cunniff, who reached base on a throwing error by The Woodlands.

That one earned run, turned out to be the difference in the ballgame.

The Woodlands (15-2, 2-2) got an outstanding pitching performance by starter Abby Langkamp and she went the complete game, giving up just three hits out of the 34 batters she faced while striking out 11.

“In big games, you can’t give up unearned runs. The bottom of our lineup did very well today, but some of our big players are pressing a little too much,” said Highlanders Head Coach Richard Jorgensen.

The Lady Highlanders took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning when Kaitlyn Stavinoha singled to right field on a line drive, scoring Aubrey Leach from second base.

Give Oak Ridge credit as they took the lead in the next frame and closed out the win behind starting pitcher Jessica Rodriguez, who also went the complete game, scattering seven hits and allowing just one earned run while striking out three.

In a game that would be classified as a pitcher’s duel, defense was the difference maker in this game as Oak Ridge left just four runners on base and The Woodlands stranded 11.

Oak Ridge will enjoy the rest of spring break before returning to action next Tuesday, March 24, at 6:30pm in a non-district game vs. Houston Christian.

The Woodlands returns to action this week in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, in a non-district game played at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex.
