Innovative New Spring Workshops at The Woodlands Children’s Museum
THE WOODLANDS, Texas--The Woodlands Children’s Museum has added several exciting new programs to its Spring Workshop lineup this year, from the immersive Just Add Beats workshops for older children and teens to art sessions designed for adults.
“We’ve always designed our workshops to encourage creativity and exploration in little ones, but this year, we thought we’d offer older children, teens, and adults opportunities to enjoy similar experiences,” said the museum’s Executive Director Angela Colton.
Those opportunities include the museum’s innovative Just Add Beats workshops, set for Monday-Friday, March 11-15. Student-to-teacher ratios are 15 to one.
Just Add Beats’ “STEAM Learning With Audio” session, meeting 9 a.m.-noon, immerses participants ages 9-11 in an audio-maker space. With an audio professional guiding them, students role-play as creative audio agencies, record original songs and stories, solve real-world audio challenges for clients, and make their artistic voices heard.
During Just Add Beats’ “Design Thinking and Career Education With Audio” session, which meets 1-4 p.m., students age 12-14 gain media literacy through hands-on audio design challenges. Under the guidance of an audio professional, participants access, analyze, evaluate and create original audio works.
At the end of each Just Add Beats workshop, students take home a copy of their high-quality, original audio works. No audio production experience or music training is necessary.
Another new workshop, EXTREME Science, is for ages 8-11. The course is designed to introduce and strengthen STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) skills in the areas of chemistry, physics, earth and life sciences. Hands-on activities range from solid fuel rocket launches to studying rock samples.
EXTREME Science will take place 9-11 a.m. Tuesdays March 19-May 7. The workshop is $99 for museum members and $119 for non-members.
For adults, the museum is now offering Artful Sessions taught by Monique van Beek, a Creativity Coach and owner of Canvas 2 Create. Her workshop includes valuable “how to” information for expanding individual creativity, along with hands-on instruction on producing an “acrylic art pour” painting. The museum, located at 4775 W. Panther Creek Drive, Suite 280, The Woodlands, Texas, 77381, has scheduled morning and evening options for the two-hour workshop through May. The $35 fee includes all materials and instruction.
Additional workshop categories this spring include Early Childhood Explorations for children ages 2-3; $12 for 2-Saturday Workshops for ages 5-8; RobotiKs for ages 5-10; and Specialty Workshops in art and science for ages 4-8.
Families also can opt for Spring BreaKation programming including Discovery Workshops for 4-year-olds March 11-14, along with Creative Workshops for children ages 5-6 and 7-8 March 11-15.
