THE WOODLANDS, TX –- Grand Oaks hosted The Woodlands in the Regional Quarterfinals of the 2022 UIL Championship. With a best of 3 tournament, each team would be fighting for a chance to move onto the Regional Semifinals.

The Woodlands jumped off to a quick lead in the first, which showed the momentum of the game. In the circle for Grand Oaks, Kourtney Bellinger closed out the top of the first giving up only 1 run to The Woodlands.

Matching the energy of The Woodlands, Grand Oaks also brought in one run in the first. But with Saylor Davis in the circle, The Woodlands was confident to give Grand Oaks a hard time at the plate.

After the 3rd, the game was all about pitching. Davis and Bellinger went at it for 3 innings retiring batters and only giving up a hand full of runs. While Bellinger stayed in, The Woodlands brought in Chesney Davis to finish out the game.

Only able to lead by 1, The Woodlands rallied in the 7th inning bringing in an additional 3 runs. This made the game 5-1 with only half of an inning to go. Grand Oaks felt the pressure but was able to bring in one run off of a hit into center field.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough for Grand Oaks. Chesney Davis closed out the final batter which gave The Woodlands a 1-0 lead in the series. The Woodlands wins the game 5-2.

Grand Oaks will travel to The Woodlands to attempt to tie up the series and force a game 3 at Magnolia High School.
