What's Francine gonna do?

Once again, a storm is brewing in the Gulf. This time, however, it looks like we won't be going through the catastrophic, sweltering, Stone Age aftermath as we did with Beryl. For The Woodlands area, at least, it seems like Francine will have a much milder impact as it swings into its predicted northeasterly trajectory..

Shortly, Francine is expected to be upgraded from a tropical storm to a hurricane (having been only 'Tropical Depression 6' a few short hours ago) by the time it hits the northwestern Gulf coast by Wednesday sometime.

As the storm grows, there will be an increasinly likelihood of life-threatening storm surges for portions of the upper texas and Louisiana coastlines, where a Storm Surge Watch is already in effect. There will also be an increasing risk of damaging winds in portions of southern Louisiana.

Francine will most likely bring heavy rainfall and the risk of considerable flash flooding along the coast of far northeast Mexico, portions of the Texas coast, and southern Louisiana and Mississippi from Tuesday through Thursday morning. Currently, The Woodlands and Conroe areas are just on the inside cusp of localized flooding rains and no rain at all.

So, though we may not once again be days or weeks without power and having to dodge fallen trees, there is still enough of a chance of storm shenanigans for you to be prepared and careful.

Stay tuned to Woodlands Online for continual coverage of Francine and other extreme weather.
