In just one week from today, autumn will officially start. But it appears that summer didn’t get the memo, or else it’s decided to go out kicking and screaming. For the next week at least – and certainly this weekend – we’ll enjoy some decidedly summer heat and brightness well into the first part of fall.

Around quitting time this Friday afternoon we’ll hit our high of 94 – with an added heat index making it feel like 101 – as the cloud coverage settles down a bit. The breezes will continue throughout the evening, and overnight we might get some light rain, the last vestiges of what Francine brought along with her on her way to Louisiana and Mississippi. If you want to enjoy the Willis vs. Caney Creek ballgame tonight but don’t want to brave the elements, catch our livestream with full commentary and interviews.

Even though we’ve woken up the last few days to lows in the 60s, the warming trend will continue and we won’t get below 74 before Saturday kicks into high gear. Winds and clouds will increase to help keep the high of 96 – feeling like 103 – from becoming too unbearable. If you don’t fully appreciate this weather where you can find pumpkins next to watermelons, hit the Grogan’s Mill Farmers Market for some buy-local deals.

As we bed down Saturday night, we’ll have to deal with nighttime temps being mainly in the 80s and 70s. As Sunday progresses, it will be yet another partly cloudy day with highs in the mid 90s and heat indices in the 100s, with not a falling leaf in sight. An act that’s decidedly more suited for October – Rob Zombie and Alice Cooper – is taking the stage at the Pavilion tonight. As evening hits, there may be a spate of rain to cool things down a tad, but you can expect these warm, bright climes to continue for at least another week…

Stay tuned to Woodlands Online for Monday’s weekly weather forecast.
