THE WOODLANDS, Texas — After a neck-and-neck battle against College Park High School, The Woodlands High School girls basketball team ended the game with a 44-41 victory over the Lady Cavaliers, improving the Lady Highlanders district record to 2-3.

The Lady Highlanders played with a strong defense during the first quarter, only allowing six points to be scored by the Lady Cavaliers. The Lady Cavaliers picked up momentum during the second quarter and ended the half with a 21-19 lead over the Woodlands.

In the second half, the Lady Highlanders pulled ahead of the Lady Cavaliers and maintained a lead throughout the game. College Park kept the score close, making it a tight win for the Lady Highlanders.

With senior point guard Meghan Musso on the bench with an injury, the Lady Highlanders faced a couple of tough losses against Conroe and Atascocita. Having their first victory since district play pleased The Woodlands head coach Dana Bruton.

“Every time that people who are coming off the bench can help us be successful, we are going to be that much better as we get into district,” Bruton said.

College Park will face Oak Ridge High School at home Tuesday, January 12 at 7 p.m. After their BYE on Tuesday, the Lady Highlanders will also host the Lady War Eagles Friday, January 15 at 7 p.m.
