CONROE, Texas--- The Caney Creek Panthers and the Porter Spartans meet Friday night at Moorhead stadium in an important district battle.

The Panthers, coming off three straight district losses, will be desperate to shift the momentum of their season. Although they currently sit at the bottom of the division standings, the Panthers have five games left to turn it around. In a district that has proven to be highly competitive, it is too early to count any single team out of the playoff push.

A major point of emphasis for the Panthers will be closing out the game. In last week’s match up against Barbers Hill, the Panthers had the lead at halftime but were unable to score in the second half and let the win slip away. The offense, led by Quarterback Julian Hernandez, can be highly explosive, but they will have to find some defense in order to stay competitive.

After picking up their first district win against Kingwood Park last week, the Spartans currently hold the fourth spot in the district. This is an important game for the Spartans as they look to solidify their spot in the playoff mix in the coming weeks. Winning on the road is never easy and the Panthers will be playing with desperation.

Going into the fourth week of district play, the best teams are beginning to assert themselves and the leader board is taking shape. With two competitive teams entering the game with a lot to play for, expect an electric atmosphere at Moorhead stadium this weekend.

Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. on Oct. 6.
