In a twist that was as surprising as the end of The Sixth Sense, yesterday’s sunny weather gave way to a late night storm blast, highly localized, ferocious in nature, and able to knock out multiple power grids. Fortunately, it was too brief to cause any additional flooding.

Many of us woke up this morning and left the house to see the asphalt steaming, thanks to the heat and humidity. Fortunately, for the rest of this morning the humidity will plummet, leaving us with bright, sunny skies until around lunchtime. Then, like a switch being flicked, the skies will darken and we’ll get to experience a spate of afternoon thunderstorms. The temperature will briefly dip back into the 80s, but as soon as there’s a midafternoon lull in the rain, it will hit its peak of 91 (with a heat index making it feel like 99).

Overnight, the clouds will hang around and there will be the occasional rumble of thunder as we get into a low of about 73, but thankfully only a total of about half an inch will have fallen, so no great chances of flooding. As Wednesday morning dawns, the thunder and heavier rain will give way to showers that will persist all throughout the day, until well into the evening, when clouds and precipitation will both finally move on. Moderate winds and moderately cool temperatures will keep things bearable as the high hits ‘only’ 90 degrees.

Going into Thursday, we’ll jump about 20 degrees from our overnight low of 72 rapidly to a high og 93. The rains will have moved away for the most part, so you can expect a steamy, mostly sunny day with breezes barely keeping up with the mercury. What brief cloud coverage there will be will peak around quitting time and then roam off, giving us a starry night with another low in the low 70s.

By Friday morning, all thoughts of storms will be diminished as the sun blazes with no clouds to get in its way. The thermometer will get all the way up to 95 – with a heat factor adding five degrees – and even the breezes will slumber for a while, so be sure your air filters are cleaned and your freon is charged.

The good news is, it looks like more of the same summery weather over the weekend, but next week might hear some more rumblings…

Stay tuned to Woodlands Online for our Weekend Weather report coming on Friday.
