The Woodlands Symphony Orchestra is thrilled to commemorate the milestones of two monumental compositions in classical music history: the 150th anniversary of Modest Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition" and the 100th birthday of George Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue"! Renowned for their ability to transcend time and captivate audiences, these pieces will be brought to life by the WSO alongside Maurice Ravel's enchanting "Bolero."

Artistic Director Darryl Bayer expresses his excitement, stating, “This concert was curated to represent a trio of iconic classical repertoire with both the audience and musicians’ fascinations in mind.” Under the baton of guest conductor Kirk Wilke, the orchestra will deliver dynamic interpretations, showcasing their acclaimed style.

Joining the WSO on stage for "Rhapsody in Blue" is international concert pianist Mihai Vatka. With a wealth of accolades and a profound understanding of Gershwin's composition, Vatka promises a performance filled with energy and vibrancy, embodying the essence of the American sound.

The evening's program will also feature visual enhancements, as the WSO presents Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition" in its orchestral arrangement by Maurice Ravel, accompanied by captivating artwork displayed on widescreen projectors.

Additionally, the audience will be treated to Ravel's mesmerizing "Bolero," a masterpiece that builds upon a repetitive rhythm, gradually enveloping listeners in an orchestral crescendo.

Reflecting on the significance of this event, Bayer remarks, “This is a concert that will demonstrate the true power and musicality of THE Woodlands Symphony Orchestra.” Comprised of professional musicians, dedicated music educators, and talented community members, the WSO continues to enrich the cultural landscape of The Woodlands area.

As the orchestra celebrates its tenth season, this performance marks yet another milestone in its legacy of delivering exceptional musical experiences to audiences across various venues. From The Woodlands Pavilion to intimate art galleries, the WSO remains committed to sharing the beauty of classical music with its community.
