Maundy Thursday is the Thursday of Holy Week, It commemorates the events of the Last Supper, when Jesus shared His final meal with His disciples before His crucifixion.
Jesus shared bread and wine with His disciples, establishing what Christians now practice as Communion (or the Lord’s Supper).
Jesus humbly washed His disciples’ feet, teaching love, humility, and service to others.
The word Maundy comes from the Latin mandatum, meaning commandment. It refers to Jesus’ command:
“Love one another as I have loved you.” (John 13:34)
