In this Light Trix workshop, photographers will learn how to create bold, vibrant portraits by projecting color onto a backdrop while keeping clean, flattering light on the subject—a technique that delivers dramatic results straight out of camera.

Using an 18% gray Westcott X-Drop backdrop, MagMod color gels, and speedlights, we’ll break down how to:

Project rich, controlled color onto the background

Separate background color from subject skin tones

Balance multiple speedlights for creative yet intentional lighting

Shape light for contrast, mood, and depth

A live model will be present, giving students hands-on shooting time and portfolio-ready images. You’ll rotate through lighting setups, experiment with different gel combinations, and learn how small changes in distance, angle, and power dramatically affect the final look.

This class is perfect for photographers who want to:

Add eye-catching color to studio portraits

Better understand speedlight control

Elevate their creative lighting without overcomplicating gear

Whether you shoot portraits, fashion, seniors, or creative concepts, you’ll leave this class with repeatable techniques and the confidence to recreate (and remix) this lighting style on your own.
